LOTD: Inspired by the 40s

It was cloudy and begging to rain outside so I thought I would create a little sunshine for myself with this 40's inspired look.

I parted my hair on the side, french braided down to the ear and then pulled it into a side braid. Curing the braid up like a cinnamon roll (mmm... cinnabun), I pinned it into a side bun-braid thing.

The hair inspired the dress, which you can't see, but is a full skirt and a great black and white pattern.

Then the makeup! Using MAC Copperplate, I contoured the crease of my eye ever so subtly to create som dimension to my face. I used vanilla pigment on the lid to add some sparkle and blac type on the brow bone as a matte highlight. LOTS of black eyeliner and loads of mascara, and I'm ready to go! I paired it with a plummy lip, Plum Paradise by Maybelline, and topped it with a Chanel gloss, # 142, just in the center bits.

Lovin' it!

*sorry for the bad picture quality. With the sun sleeping in, it was hard to get a good shot.

Stuck to you, just like glue...

Well, maybe not QUITE like glue.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation is my ultimate go to for long wear foundation which looks fabu from beginning to end.

Double Wear is a medium to full coverage liquid foundation which touts 12 hours or more of long lasting, complexion perfecting coverage. I will have to feed into their advertising scheme, this stuff lasts and lasts.

My favorite application is with a foundation brush, spritzed with MAC Fix+, and buffed into the skin. The fix+ tends to make it apply a tad more sheer than fingers or a sponge, and hours later my face still looks matte and even. Double Wear photographs beautifully and is a cult favorite for weddings and special events.

Price isn't too bad at 34.00 for a 1 oz bottle. Small enough to carry on a plane, that's always a plus in my book. And you don't need much of this foundation to cover a whole face, so it will last ya.

Even better is that it was a 2010 Total Beauty nominee for Best Foundation which means I'm not just the crazy cat lady in love with Estee Lauder. It's a favorite of the masses too! But don't take my word for it, check out the Estee Lauder counter for a foundation that will stick with you through your longest day. Be sure to tell me what you think! Comment below.

Glow Baby Glow....

Nars Sheer Glow comes is as my number two favorite foundation. It's sheer enough to not feel like you're caking on product, but it gives you this inner glow that helps anyone to exude confidence.

Nars Sheer Glow is a light to medium coverage foundation that applies smooth and seemingly sinks right into your skin. It's a "My Skin But Better" foundation in my life. I can slather it on with my fingers, a brush or a sponge and it looks flawless and chic either way.

Don't be afraid of the word "Glow" in the title. Nars sheer glow, for me, is still a semi-matte foundation. It gives you a little bit of a warm sheen on the higher planes of your face, perfect for highlighting those Angelina cheekbones that we all wish we had right? It doesn't turn into an oil slick throughout the day, and stays even more true to form with a good primer underneath. Right now, I'm loving Cover FX Clear Primer.

Check this one out next time you're at a Nars counter or at Sephora. BUT make sure you get the right color match. I have heard from a couple people that the colors in the middle of the range are really close to each other, and having just one color in the wrong direction has changed the opinion from "meh" to Holy Grail.

Oh and PS, they now sell the pump for the foundation on the NARS website. Previously you'd get a bottle with a screw cap and your only chance of getting a pump was to sweetly bat your eyes at a sales associate. Flirt no more! for 6.00 that pump can be yours!
